We are delighted to announce that Professor Johnathan Clayden has agreed to become the volume editor for Volume 36 (Alcohols). This volume is due to be published in 2007. Professor Clayden is based at the University of Manchester, UK.

We would like to congratulate Professor Bernd Giese, member of the editorial board of SYNLETT, on being awarded the Tetrahedron Prize for Creativity in Organic Chemistry for 2005.

A. C. Cope Scholar Award

We are delighted to announce that Professor Paul Knochel received the Arthur C. Cope Scholar Award for his extensive work on organometallic reagents and especially for the development of new synthetic methodologies for organometallic reactions, asymmetric chemistry, and stereoselective radical chemistry.

Orbituary Hans-Jürgen Bestmann

Prof. Dr. Dr. h.c. em. Hans-Jürgen Bestmann, who served for seven years as SYNTHESIS editor in chief, passed away on June 18, 2005, at the age of 79. Read more.

Belleau Award to Victor Snieckus

We would like to congratulate Professor Victor Snieckus, volume editor for Volume 8 on being awarded the Bernard Belleau Award for distinguished research contributions to the field of organic and medicinal chemistry. Victor received the award at the National Canadian Society for Chemistry Conference in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, May 28–June 1.

We are delighted to announce that Professor Christopher A. Ramsden has agreed to become the volume editor for Volume 31a Arene-X (X = Hal, O, S, Se, Te) and Volume 31b Arene-X (X = N, P). Both volumes are due to be published in 2006. Professor Ramsden is based at Keele University in the UK.

	Professor Norbert Krause
We are delighted to announce that Professor Norbert Krause has agreed to become the volume editor for Science of Synthesis Volume 44 (Cumulenes and Allenes) which is due to be published in 2008. Professor Krause is based at Dortmund University, Germany.

	Professor Henning Hopf
We are delighted to announce that Professor Henning Hopf has agreed to act as the editor of Volume 43 on Alkynes which is scheduled to be published in 2008. Professor Hopf is based at the Institut fur Organische Chemie, Technische Universitat Braunschweig and is President of the German Chemical Society.

Completion of Category 2

With the publication of Volume 15 on 8. December 2004, Category 2: Hetarenes (Volumes 9–17) has become the first category in the Science of Synthesis series to be completed.
