    Volume 7 Reception

    To celebrate the recent publication of Volume 7, the Thieme Chemistry team will be holding a reception at the Nagoya Conference Centre on the occasion of the IUPAC ICOS-15 conference.     Obituary Kenji Koga

    Professor Kenji Koga, Tokyo,

    who served for five years as SYNTHESIS editor for Asia passed away on July 25th, 2004. He has been a leading scientist in our field Organic Chemistry over decades. We lost with him one of the pioneers of Asymmetric Synthesis. The quality of his research and his dedication and engagement in our science chemistry has always been a leading example for all of us. He will live on in our hearts.

    is to be awarded the Yamada Prize in recognition of the impact of his work in the fields of the synthesis of optically active compounds.

    RÖMPP Online

    On May 27, 2004 a new version of RÖMPP Online, the largest and most renowned chemical encyclopedia published in German, has been released. Click here to get more information (in German).

    We are delighted to announce the publication of Volume 27 (Compounds with Two Carbon¾Heteroatom Bonds), which is the first volume in Category 4 to be completed. Click here to see which other volumes are planned for 2004.


    New Volume Editor for Volume 32

    We are delighted to announce that Professor Johann Mulzer has agreed to become a volume editor for the Science of Synthesis project. Professor Mulzer will be responsible for Volume 32 [X-Ene-X and Ene-O Compounds] which is to be published in 2007. He is based at the University of Vienna, Austria.

    We are delighted to announce that Professor Gary Molander from the University of Pennsylvania, USA has agreed to become the volume editor for Science of Synthesis , Volume 33.

    Professor Wolfgang A. Herrmann has been awarded the ACS Award in Organometallic Chemistry which is to be presented before the Division of Organic Chemistry.

    Professor
    John Colin Tatlow
    (1923–2008)

    We are very sorry to announce that Professor John Colin Tatlow passed away on April 9th, 2008. Professor Tatlow was the Editor-in-Chief of the E10 Organo-Fluorine Compounds (Houben–Weyl) series and made a major contribution to fluorine chemistry during his career. He was the recipient of the American Chemical Society Award for Creative Work in Fluorine Chemistry in 1990. We would like to extend our sincere condolences to his family and friends.
